ID cards proposed to help identify the autistic

Cases of autism can vary in severity, andin more pronounced cases, communication is difficult if not impossible.

To help autistic people who may find themselves in situations where an inability to communicate could jeopardize health and safety, Democratic AssemblymanAngelo Santabarbara, of District 111, is proposingautism identificationcardsfor New York residents that would help them interact with law enforcement andrescue personnel.

The cards are optional and would be issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles to people with a confirmed diagnosis of autism that would provide information about a person’s difficulties in social situations, including “trouble following directions and an aversion to physical contact or shared space.”

The cards would also allow peopleto list emergency contacts, according to a press release issued by Santabarbara.

News 10television reporterNoel McLaren reports that Santabarbara’s idea for the cards were in part inspired by his teenage son Michael who is autistic and has difficulty communicating.

While the idea appears to be generating positive support, Scannable Fake IDs many think it’s important the cards remain optional so it doesn’t seem like the autistic are being labeled. Also, some people think the ID cards should also be used for other disabilities since autism isn’t the only disability that affects communication.

As I revealed before, my brother is autistic and his communication is limited so an ID card could be useful in an emergency.

When my brother was younger he sometimes ran away, throwing everyone into a panic. Even though he never left the sidewalk and hasn’t done this in years, he could start again. Like many people with autism, his behavior is unpredictable.

However, if my brother needed help, Best Fake ID websites I know he wouldn’twalk up to someone and show that person his ID card. He wouldn’t know to, especially if he had the card in his bag or pocket.

There are other people that wouldn’t know to either. Showing the card requires some form of communication or interaction, which is the issue that the cards are supposed to fix, unless the cards are worn on their on their clothes or somewhere visible on them, which goes back to the problem of labeling.

If the cards were to work, I agreethey shouldn’t bemandatory and should be issued for other disabilities. Having the cards be optionalallows the freedom to ensure that those who would rather do without, can do so.
